The holiday season is fast approaching….and there is no better way to start it off than with the Canada Japan Society’s legendary BOUNENKAI 忘年会 celebration and party on Tuesday, December 5th 2017!
Bounenkai literally means “forget the year party” and it’s the perfect time to celebrate the end of another successful year and banish any negative memories you might have of 2017….all while getting you ready for the start of the holiday season! The tradition is said to have begun in Japan during the 15th century during the Muromachi period as gatherings to express thanks. At that time, the parties were known as noukai (great achievement gathering). By the 18th century, they had become known as Bounenkai, or year-end parties. Bounenkai is seen as a time for letting one's hair down and not worrying about the everyday work or societal formal, rank or age division relationships that exist…..everyone just comes out to have a good time!
The CJS is building on our successful Bounenkai events of years past with this, our largest event of the year. We would love to have you join this event and enjoy an evening of meeting new people with a connection/interest in Japan, reconnecting with those you haven’t seen for a while, informal networking, practicing your English and/or Japanese, learning more about the Canada Japan Society, and most of all…..have a great time!
This year we’re returning to RYOJI RAMEN & IZAKAYA! Admission includes lots of great Japanese and Okinawan food and our ever famous door prizes!

CJS Escape Room Adventure @ Mystery Room
Need a distraction from the long work week to lift your spirits? Do you enjoy solving puzzles and playing cooperative games? If so, then this event is for you. CJS is thrilled to be hosting its first ever outing to an escape room!
There are already hundreds of online games that involve solving puzzles, collecting items and deciphering riddles to unlock a door and successfully escape from the room you're in. At Mystery Room, you'll put yourself into that very same situation. You and a group of team mates will be forced to think outside the box and put your problem solving skills to the test if you want to escape successfully. Did I mention there's a time limit?
Date: Thursday, April 20
The cost for this event is $22 per person. Our reservation can accommodate up to 9 people; beyond that, anyone wishing to participate will be subject to the availability of the other rooms. For those that do not wish to join the escape room, Mystery Room also has a library of board games to enjoy for a reasonable rate. Please refer to the home page for further details about the venue.
