Thursday January 12th, 2017 - The First Ichimokukai of the Year Will Be a NIMOKUKAI
Ichimokukai literally means the "first Thursday meeting" and since 1995 it has been the Canada Japan Society of Toronto's monthly social event, naturally on the first Thursday of every month. It is a great place to make new friends, practice your English and/or Japanese, informally network, learn more about life in Canada and Japan, and most of all have fun! Our attendees are ...usually around 50 percent Canadian and 50 percent Japanese, all with a common interest or connection with Japan. At IMK you will receive special food and drink discounts, get to talk to lots of interesting people, and have the chance to win some exciting door prizes…..and get information on Bonenkai and a multitude of CJS upcoming events.
We hope to see you there!
Come early to ensure a good seat!

Masato Harada’s (Kakekomi, Chronicle of My Mother) powerful political drama tells the little known story of Japan’s surrender in the Pacific War.
It is August 1945 and Japan debates whether to end the war and open up peace negotiations through the Potsdam Declaration. Atomic weapons strike Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The War Council, established on behalf of the Emperor, assigns popular military general Anami as Minister of the Army. However, Anami has a seemingly impossible task ahead: reconciling his desire to see his nation’s sovereignty preserved and the military’s resistance to accepting defeat with his Emperor’s wish for peace.
